March – Camellia

By 1st December 2018Plant of the month

This gorgeous winter/early spring flowering shrub is hard to beat

Their large, rose like flowers, with velvety petals in white red pink are instantly recognisable.

Nestled amongst glossy, evergreen foliage they are the perfect shrub for adding interest and colour.

Care Guide

For best results choose a location which is in the shade in the mornings. This stops the buds defrosting too quickly and browning.

Ericaceous (acid) soils are best, though a twice yearly ericaceous (acid) feed will provide essential minerals, encourage flower formation and prevent yellowing leaves, a common problem with acid loving plants.

Can be grown either in the ground or in a pot just remember to pot on when required and in both cases don’t let your plant dry out
